At some point this afternoon I cracked and started kicking the machine. Nothing was making sense. Nothing was working. I'd read through every line of code and traced each function in the great diagram in my head and they all added up.
Perfectly.
Again and again and again.
And again. And again.
And then...
"Hey monstre, what's the password on the DB again?"
"blarg"
Waitamminit...
I changed the password the other day and the program accessing the DB never made a sound.
When does it check the passwords?
They couldn't have... They did... Hardcode it into the tiny little main.c file.
And there it was. Entirely the wrong permissions set.
Compile.
Run.
Wait.
Check the logs. Check the cache.
Fetch some more raw data, run again.
Wait.
Tentatively throw something at Andre-Marc to come see.
Watch him blanch. We'd already made preparations for what would happen if I didn't meet tomorrow's deadline.
Test it a few times.
Go have coffee. Shake our heads a lot.
Come back. Reboot. Run again.
Make plans to spend tomorrow drinking and playing cards.
Anyone else need a horseshoe? I seem to have gotten quite a bit of usefulness out of this one...
